I don't have the original project files any more and years ago thought of a way to do it without quadratic while falling asleep (or at least I think so), so it was probably an artefact of the non-sophisticatedness of the maths, but still.īasically: Take some 2d vectors and a scalar for time representing collision if t=0, solve for that one symbolically (luckily there was mathematica), then, each frame, calculate (involving said quadratic), if delta t < frame_time, move ball to t=0, figure out collision vector (actual point of tangent), reflect velocity by that, rinse, repeat, with lower frame time.
